Focus group feedback into influential film (Wrong turn 6)

For this task we was researching into our audience and trying to find out what made them anticipated. One film we particularly focused on the opening of is Wrong Turn 6 and the opening title to this film. We asked questions such as:
·         What effect does the music have? How does it make you feel?
·         Are there any shots in particular that make you feel tense? How?
·         Are there any colours with in the scene continuously used that draw you into the scene?
·         What lighting was used (light or dark) how did it make you feel?
·         What do you notice about the costumes? Do they intimidate you? Why?
·         How is the editing with the open titles effective? Does it fit the styles of the film?

1.    In general the music made people feel tense and they felt that is was dramatic. The music was said to add anxiety to the situation and people were made to feel sympathy toward the characters who were getting killed.
2.    It was believed that people liked the use of point of view shots as it made them feel as if they were part of the scene. They also felt that the long shot of the woman getting decapitated was effective as it made them cringe as it happened as they saw it happen in detail. They also liked the long shots of the monster as they were quickly able to establish who the bad and who the good were and what the film was about. Furthermore, people enjoyed the establishing shots as it showed the isolation within them which foreshadowed that something bad was going to happen and there was no escape.
3.    The dark colours used were found effective as they set a sinister atmosphere and it was depicted that something bad was going to happen. The audience were drawn in particularly by the green grass and how red the blood was as they contrasted to the darkness of scene yet blood is such a grim feature and green grass contrasts with the idea of people getting killed as it is pure and natural so the film could represent the killing of pure human nature, making the audience feel a negative way toward the murderers.
4.    Everyone noticed the high key, daytime lighting used. This was found effective because the viewer was able to see everything that was happening and it put them on edge and unsafe. It also showed the evil with in killers as they aren’t afraid to kill people in the daytime. The brightness also showed the isolation of the forest.

5.    It was said that the opening title was effective because it fit the genre of the film. People noticed the blood running from the title which demonstrated to them that the film was going to be a slasher. The thought of this put our audience on edge.
